Hand Arm Vibration (HAV) Testing
At POIRIERCASTRO HSE, we take your health and safety very seriously and offer the most comprehensive services in the industry.
By increasing awareness of various conditions that we see in our day to day practice, we can educate our clients about what to look for in order to reduce and prevent environmental illness. Otherwise, conditions will continue to develop over time and reoccur.
Until recently, many were unaware of a condition known as hand-arm vibration syndrome or HAVS,
caused by repeated and frequent use of hand-held vibrating tools. The repeated injury to the small nerves and blood vessels in the fingers can cause
changes in sensation, numbness and tingling, muscular aches and pains, as well as loss of circulation resulting in white fingers.
In the early stages of the condition, symptoms may be mild and come and go. As the condition develops, numbness becomes permanent and may lead to muscle weakness and atrophy.

HAND AND ARM VIBRATION TESTING is conducted by an Industrial Hygienist onsite throughout the full duration of the work shift.
Work activities are carefully documents, and vibration levels are measured using a vibration meter worn by the worker.
Additional testing may also evaluate grip strength, the workers ability to perform fine hand movements, and test the workers response to cold in the fingers.
Based on the findings, recommendations can be made to prevent further damage and treatment options discussed if needed.
